Maiden was the youngest of the sisters living in Torcia Tower. Believing herself to be the daughter of Hank Fieron, Maiden tortured and killed numerous people with the goal of resurrecting her perceived father. She was specifically charged with imprisoning and killing victims.

History[]

Early Life[]

Engineered by Garness Elsebert, Maiden was originally an iron maiden used by Hank Fieron to torture his victims. Twenty years after Hank's death, Maiden was given a human form by Beritoad.[1] She thus woke up in the storage room of Torcia Tower alongside Gibbet and Rack, unable to recall anything from her past. She was then told by Beritoad that they were the torture instruments of Hank, and that they had to torture and kill people to increase Beritoad's power and bring back Hank, their "father".[2]

The Torturer Sisters Three[]

The three sisters then began abducting people to torture and kill. With Maiden being the one to kill their victims after they were tortured, carried out her duties,[3] imprisoning the thief Lloyd Lowell before he escaped,[4] and killing the noble daughter Cynthia Chamberlain.[2]

Raymondmaidenillus

When Beritoad's half-human son Raymond Atwood came to the tower, Maiden killed his companions Joshua Herbert and Vivian under special orders from Beritoad. Raymond then revealed his powers and fought the three sisters before escaping.[5]

A week after, Raymond returned to the tower, accompanied by Lloyd, Benji Kemp and Stella Townsend. During this time, Maiden killed Lloyd, although soon after getting caught up in the fight between Raymond and Rack. Soon after, Raymond and his companions were able to escape the tower, and Beritoad was left injured by Rack.[6]

Trials with Crossrosier[]

Around half a year after, Raymond returned to the tower along with Liam Highland and Tsukumo. When they reached the fourth floor, Maiden prepared to battle them, although easily defeated by Tsukumo's water powers.[7] Raymond and his others then captured Beritoad and left the tower; left without a power source, Maiden was reverted back into her iron maiden form.

Maiden was eventually found by Gibbet and, along with the also reverted Rack, was brought to the Crossrosier Mansion. They were also accompanied by Beritoad's familiar Rabiah. As they neared Beritoad, Maiden began regaining her human form. At sunset, they enacted their plan, with Rabiah causing a diversion outside while the three girls broke into the mansion. As they reached the lab where Beritoad was imprisoned, they were stopped by Tsukumo and did battle with her before she ran outside to help Raymond against Rabiah.

Entering the lab with the help of Maiden's intangibility powers, they found Beritoad there with Liam Highland and a recently-deceased Hargain Crossrosier. After talking to Liam, they discovered that Tsukumo was fighting Rabiah alongside Raymond and ran out to help him. They arrived at the scene and did battle, only for Tsukumo to unleash a massive lightning blast on everyone. Following the incident, Maiden and the others were helped by the uninjured Gibbet, and they all returned to the mansion.[8]

Fall of Torcia[]

Letterillus

While Gibbet and Rabiah were out of the tower to secure more sacrifices due to Torcia's current drought of prey, a letter was sent to the tower addressed to Maiden. She received the message, which said only “I’m going to meet you soon” and was surprised to see that it was from neither Gibbet nor Rabiah like usual, not recognizing the sender. Maiden later killed Torcia's last captive and reported it to Beritoad. The two, along with Rack, who reported a strange entity awakened by moonlight through a damaged wall, discussed previous periods of low income and the others assured Maiden this gap was temporary. As the conversation came to a close, Maiden attempted to ask him about the letter, but he dismissed her, telling her to fix the wall Rack mentioned, and left for the day.

As Rack had her examine the seal in the dining room floor, Maiden concluded that it was magnetic and that she probably couldn't phase through it. Rack begged for Maiden to help her and not fix the hole like Beritoad asked, instead, find a way to open the seal. Maiden agreed in exchange for Rack's help in understanding the letter. Rack recognized the sender as Garness, Maiden's creator, shocked that Maiden wouldn't know this. Maiden confesses her weak memory and Rack reminds her of who he is.[1] Some time later, Maiden repaired the hole like Beritoad had asked, but allowed the brickwork to be manipulated for Rack's use.[9]

Later that day, Maiden shot an iron maiden at an intruder, Garness Elsebert, on the fifth floor, the man catching and throwing it aside. As she approached him, he was utterly delighted to see her, recognizing her as his work even in a humanoid form. Realizing he was one who wrote to her, he reintroduced himself. Garness had returned to the tower to fix some sort of defect he left in Maiden the first time he created her.[1]

Taken into the fifth floor's workshop room, Maiden reverted to her inanimate iron maiden form and was dismantled by Garness.[10] For the next several weeks, he repaired and maintained the separate pieces of her body and made his desired adjustments.[9] One day, as Maiden laid inanimate but conscious on the workshop table, she complained about being bored, so she and Garness made small talk, him letting her know that Gibbet and Rabiah were back. Rack then burst into the room warning of intruders, but Maiden being in pieces meant both she and Garness couldn't help. As Rack left in a huff, he assured Maiden that he didn't think there would be a fight.

Later that day, as Maiden was contemplating her role as executioner within Torcia, Garness put the finishing touches on her and the other iron maidens in the tower's storage. Asking about the difference between her and the other iron maidens, Garness kept it a secret, only saying that she'll find out soon. Maiden had other questions to ask him, but had the feeling that, as Garness left to report to Beritoad, that he would not be coming back to the workshop. Later, Gibbet checked in on Maiden's well-being, after Garness escaped from the tower.[10]

Bloodymaidenillus

Several days later, Benji Kemp's forces invaded Torcia Tower, where Gibbet and Rack engaged them on the lower floors while Maiden waited on the fourth floor. As the enemy forces escaped and scattered throughout the tower, Garness ran into Maiden again. Though he was delighted to face off against his creation,[11] Maiden reluctantly engaged because she thought of him as family. Reassuming her iron maiden form, she enveloped the man and closed. Instead of killing him immediately as per Maiden's ordinary function, the grievously injured Garness was still alive and explained to her that he altered her spikes to properly torture her victims instead of an instant death. He explained that he had no intention of stopping the Torcia inhabitants, preferring to be killed by his own iron maiden to end his obsolete life as a torture engineer, much to Maiden's confusion. The two conversed more as Garness bled out, concluding that Hank was an adoptive father to Maiden, and Garness her birth father. He soon after expired, but Maiden did not release Garness' body, wishing to hold him just a bit longer.

Rackwerewolfillus

Later, when the soulless Rack-Amostia hybrid destroyed Torcia Tower, Maiden was pulled along by Tsukumo to Raymond's side. Recognizing the beast as Rack, Maiden begged Raymond to help her older sister. Unexpectedly backed up by Tsukumo, she convinced the half-wraith to stop Amostia's rampage.

As the conjoined forces of Torcia's remaining inhabitants and the wraith hunters attempted to attack the thick-hided wolf beast by aiming at their open mouth, Maiden watched Gibbet summon the Cord of Gleipnir to keep Amostia's maw open. As Tsukumo enhanced a lightning strike from both Beritoad and Raymond and aimed at Amostia, Maiden reassumed her iron maiden form and intercepted the shot, conducting the electricity, and propelling forward like a bullet into Amostia's throat.[12] Successfully piercing their armor, the wraith was defeated and Maiden was gently removed from the wound by Amo, Amostia's soul.[13]

After Amostia's defeat, Maiden was forcibly reverted to her iron maiden form due to Beritoad's absence, escaping from an opportunistic Raymond. Since Torcia was now gone, the former inhabitants of the tower moved to a new eleven-story tower by an ocean. Maiden's inanimate body was left to wait in a dark room within the tower, regaining form once Beritoad had returned from the north. As she admired the new view, she resolved to continue torturing and killing people, as that is what her two fathers would have wanted. But first, she needed to make repairs to the disused tower.[14]
